For all the research and the countless supplements and food products on shelves specifically targeting the gut, a survey shows 36 percent of people are unaware of the gut’s importance to overall wellbeing.
The researchers say the Mediterranean diet may help people suffering with poor mental health by helping their gut release serotonin.
Research indicates the “hunger” hormone may also trigger impulsive spending, especially when it comes to items that “feed” the brain’s reward center.
Patterns in a person’s microbiome, the organisms living in the gut, could determine whether a person is going to age well or die early, say scientists.
“These new studies identify the gut microbial gene cluster responsible for the second step of the process that links a red meat-rich diet to elevated cardiac disease risks,” says lead author Dr. Stanley Hazen.
